Further Micron Reduction

The tools we are using to achieve our client’s goals of high-value wool are:

  • Microning 1500 ewe hoggets
  • Microning 800 ram hoggets
  • Remicroning all adult sires annually

With the above and 23-26 micron ram hoggets and sires, we are moving the micron reduction bell curve much faster, enabling us to achieve the finer edge for our clients.

All of the above is only achievable with a large ram-breeding flock. This lambing, we are selecting our rams and ewe hogget replacements from our elite 2400 ewes and 1800 ewe hoggets and screening from another 1000 commercial sheep. This is the key to your and our success.

Carla Information

Snowline Genetics is placing huge emphasis on Worm Tolerance so we can all successfully handle drench resistance on our farms in the future.

Below are the “Snowline Rams” AG Research 2023 Carla Results

Breakdown of Annual CARLA Responses

Breakdown of Annual CARLA Levels

From AG Research Paper.  Young animals with high CARLA tend to be more productive, on average 1.5kg heavier than low CARLA animals.

Information

Dr David Scobie of AG Research headed a breeding programme to search the attributes of bare breach sheep. His findings were that bare breaches will lead to less dags and about 75% less flystrike. Independent estimates from Lincoln University put the savings at $7 per ewe per year. After working with many breeds and breeders across the country we now know that lambs with bare breaches have a higher weaning weight and ewes will subsequently have the greater fertility.
